“We have an open door policy” and “Never let your fear decide your fate”.
From the first time I met Joni and her mum, Trish, at Cruise Cafe in Knysna, I knew I wanted to be part of this wedding and the day delivered more than what I could expect. Roll on 2nd December and as always the morning prep included 10 minutes of visualisation of what I would “want to happen” and to make sure that I capture the moments. I visualised Knysna Heads with the sun streaming down, me flying the drone, looking for angles and shadows and “putting beautiful people in dramatic landscapes”. Well. The photos will show that there was no sun for our couples shoot, but instead, I got my favourite, mood.
I know I keep saying this, but this wedding, is definitely in my top 3. It was more than a wedding, more than two families joining, more than a celebration a true love, more than capturing moments, this was just, more!
The moment Trish opened her door to invite me into their house where Joni was getting ready, it felt homely and I don’t know why more brides don’t get ready at home, you surrounded by childhood memories and stuffed animals toys and gave me an insight to what a special person Joni really is. From unicorn animals to Beyonce playing, the yoga matt nearly folded into the corner, jeans on the bed and a fan stuck on the wall above your bed.
Even when you messed up Michelle’s eyeliner, there wasn’t a single strand of panic, it was laugh it off, wash it off and restart. Surrounded only by your Maid of Honour and her precious little one, Sophia (who nearly got stolen, by me!).
My first glimpse of Adrian was well, interesting, he was putting on his belt at the front of the alter, casually smiling and taking his time.
Joni and Adrian, your own vows to each other was the most beautiful part of the day for me and I, lost concentration because I wanted to listen to what you each declared to each other. I wanted every word to sink in and stay in.
Your friends and family were absolutely amazing even when I tried sneaky shots and they caught me, I just got genuine smile and laughter.
Joni and Adrian, my wish for you both is to never change what you have. Quirky genuine love. And I hope the below quote by Dave Grohol happens for the two of you!
“There’s a big difference between falling in love with someone and falling in love with someone and getting married. Usually, after you get married, you fall in love with the person even more.”
